I have been such a horrible blogger lately – not checking my site, not keeping up with my posts. Life has just gotten SO incredibly hectic this past week or so. We’ve had a lot of family events, I’ve been trying hard to get the house decorated for Halloween (and cleaning in the process before heading off to Ireland), last minute details for our trip and to top it off, I’m not feeling much like myself.

Moving on. This outfit is perfect for those hectic weeks. It’s simple, comfy but still classy and sophisticated. Bonus: it makes me feel a lot better when I’m having a not-so-up-to-it day.

Last weekend was the Potter Party. It’s an annual event held in Staunton, Virginia that honors all things Harry Potter. A lot of the downtown shops and restaurants participate by decorating, hosting activities and serving Harry Potter inspired food and drink. It’s a fantastic event to take your kids to, grab some butterbeer or just sit back and people watch.

Being in the Harry Potter generation, you know we went! My husband has never read the books, but really loves the movies (and we’ve seen them many times over!). I, on the other hand, am a die hard Harry Potter fan. I read all the books when they came out, went to see all the movies in theaters and the series remains one of my absolute favorite of all time. Always. 🙂

My poor husband. He tries so hard, but the little details of photography just don’t make sense to him. I always do the first shots to get the settings correct and then hand it over to him so all he really has to do is shoot. But tonight we were really busy and it was almost sunset by the time we got out. My settings were on point when we started but it just got dark so fast! Although I’ve told him many times, he just doesn’t pay attention to the exposure gauge (super technical term, there). His response to me when I tried to explain it again was, “I thought the camera would just shoot exactly what I see as I see it”. If only, darlin’, if only. To wrap it up – the photos are grainy, my husband is learning, you’ll live.

I had originally wanted to do a romper outfit today, seeing as it was 86 degrees here. (What?! Weather, straighten up – it is less than a week to autumn.) However, upon zipping up the romper I had in mind, it was hanging off me! To the sewing machine it goes.

So I decided on a more transitional outfit that’s still airy enough for summer, but covered enough for fall. Perfect for today’s weather, classy enough for date night and comfy enough to run errands in.

So last weekend I hosted a Premier Designs Jewelry party. Not something I ever thought I’d do, but after having a blast (both in the kitchen and at the party) I’d 100% do it again. Hostess perks = free jewelry!

I am the unofficial Martha Stewart of my friends and family – trust me, I read this post and checked everything on the list 🙂 – and this party was the perfect opportunity to put some of that title to work. I did an afternoon tea theme and both the guests and myself were thrilled with the outcome.
