Every season, I have a mental list of things I want to do or traditions I want to carry on. Although those lists are much longer in the fall and winter (hello, Christmas!), I always make one.
This year, I’m working really hard to find my groove and one of the things I have ALWAYS done to help me do this is writing things down. Although I am not the only stay at home mom I know that keeps a highly detailed planner, I’m pretty sure I’m an oddity. (Stay at home moms out there, please prove me wrong!) I keep track of everyone’s appointments, vacations, events, shopping lists, reminders, to do lists – I would literally explode if it ever went missing. But it’s what works for me and that’s all that really matters.
Without further ado, here is my spring bucket list! And yes, they’re all social distancing safe. 🙂
SPEND SOME “DO NOTHING” OUTSIDE TIME
Lately, I have been wondering if I may have Seasonal Affective Disorder or SAD. This past year I really started to notice a lack of desire to do the things that I really enjoy doing, low energy and just general poopiness. Since the weather has been warming up, I’ve been taking Elias outside more often and it has improved my mood so much. We typically go to the park, go on a walk or just throw rocks, blow bubbles and wait for the school bus to drive by – he just loves yelling “stop sign!”. Nothing super structured: just good, old fashioned fresh air and sunlight.
DECORATE EGGS (OR DECORATE WITH EGGS)
My artistic ability when it comes to decorating eggs is absolutely nonexistent. I don’t know what it is about it, but I just can not. Maybe this year we will take a different approach.
I don’t know about you, but one of my favorite parts of spring is the abundance of flowers. Every time I see a field full of color, all I want to do is stop and pick myself a bouquet. That being said, I might have to just make a special trip so Elias can help pick some for his mama. ❤
Oh, come on, you know you want to! I’m super excited for egg hunting this year because last year Elias was NOT interested in being in the grass. Even in his shoes…Even in his shoes being held over the grass. Just. No. But we’re past that phase now and I’m 100% positive he will want to
get kick all the eggs “super fast!”.
BAKE A CARROT CAKE…AND BINGE ON CARROT CAKE OREOS…
Every year, I bake a carrot cake and it never gets old. Why? Because I try a new recipe every time. Here are a couple of my favorites: Classic Carrot Cake, Strawberry Coconut Carrot Cake, Carrot Cake Cheesecake. This year I’m thinking of trying Maple Caramel Carrot Cake. NOW…can we talk about carrot cake Oreos?! I am toying around the idea of using the carrot cake Oreos in a dirt cake, but we’ll see. Depends on how many are left over. 😉
MAKE A NATURE BOX WITH MY SON
Writing out those words have made my eyes a little wet, not gonna lie here. My grandma used to take us out to do this when we were little. I remember her sandals and shorts and the way she used to squat down and be so excited for all the random little things we found – to this day I STILL see things most people overlook. We used to walk down in her yard (she lived out in the country so a very LARGE yard) and find little sticks or flowers, nests or eggs that had fallen, dead butterflies – this all sounds very morbid now that I’m typing it out 😉 – and take them back to the house. My siblings and cousins would each get a shoe box, she would help us hot glue everything in to create a little scene and then plastic wrap the front to create a window of sorts. Those little boxes are some of my favorite memories.
We’ve been to see the ducks already this year and Elias handled it better than I thought he would. There were definitely moments of fear when ALL the ducks started waddling over to him, but he rebounded super quick and I’m so proud of him. Add a bag of bread (or peas I have heard are much better for them) and all bets are off.
I have been pecking at spring cleaning here and there and making a mental list of things to organize or clean out and I cannot wait to really get started. We are planning on moving this year and potentially having another baby so you can imagine my excitement about all the organizational items I get to shop for!
And there you have it! I’d be interested to hear what’s on your spring bucket list as well!
