my favorite (not makeup!) beauty products

beauty productsSince becoming a mom, I have placed a good deal of emphasis on feeling confident in my own skin. Not “it takes me two hours to get ready” skin or “don’t splash me in the face because I will melt” skin – not even “can Mommy at least put on some mascara PLEASE” skin. Just my skin.

Gone are the days of walking out of the house being fully made up, outfit on point and showered. Now I get to choose. (Tell me, which one would you choose? 😉 ) And you know what? It’s totally okay.

It’s okay to choose the shower. It’s okay to choose an extra 30 minutes of sleep. It’s okay to choose a Hostess cake over a full Irish breakfast. It’s okay to choose your child or your sanity or your beanie and sweats today. Because momming is HARD and, sometimes, unfair. Cut yourself some slack and learn to roll with the punches.

But that doesn’t mean you have to hate the way you look or how you feel. Invest a (very!) little time in yourself and reap the rewards. Your mood will thank you.

Yoga Toes
There’s a reason they’re on the top of the list – “Oh, Mylanta!”. These are worth their weight in gold. They feel sooooooo good on and when you take them off your piggies will feel so stretched and refreshed. They basically separate all your toes and stretch everything out. I swear they are NOT medieval torture devices.

Wet Brush
I have A LOT of hair and I don’t have a lot of time to deal with brushing it and being gentle enough to not make myself cry. This brush is it, people! It literally takes me half the time it used to to brush my hair. I do my normal shampoo and conditioner, hit my hair with some Miracle 10 (to DIE for!), brush it out and that’s it. Oh, I forgot – *insert messy mom bun here* 😉

Olay ProX Cleansing Brush
My skin is super dry and flaky, especially around the corners of my nose and this brush is able to reach it all without me having to put in a lot of effort. It feels great on my skin, my skin looks and feels better and I’m even able to do microdermabrasion in my own bathroom. I love, love, LOVE St. Ive’s line of facial care. It’s the only brand I’ve found that most of the products work for my skin, not against it and I can use it on the brush. I use St. Ive’s Coffee & Coconut Energizing Scrub in the morning (it smells amazing!) and St. Ive’s Gentle Smoothing Oatmeal Scrub in the evening.

Opi Nail Envy
No one likes cracked or peeling nails – I don’t know about everyone else, but when (at the very least) my fingernails are looking nice, I feel better. I don’t use faux nails and I’ve never really liked colored polish on my hands. But I get compliments ALL THE TIME on how healthy my nails are, how great they look and people even ask me if they’re real. Opi Nail Envy is literally the only thing I use. It’s a bit pricey, but 100% worth it.

Bye Bye Blemish Drying Lotion
One of the first things that started happening when I got pregnant with Elias was acne. Huge, clustered, painful acne. This little Pepto Bismol pink, minty smelling bottle was my lifesaver. It literally cut the pain, size and redness at least in half after using it overnight one time. I always keep a bottle on hand for random blemishes.

These are my top five must have beauty products for feeling my best without taking up loads of my time. If you’re like me, where minimalism rules most days, be sure to carve out a few moments for yourself. You deserve it.

Be sure to check back – I’m planning to do a few more in depth, updated self care posts ranging from my daily skin care routine to workout schedules – I might even throw in a few mental health posts as well. Stay tuned!
