12 Days of Christmas Giveaway

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAFlannel Sleep Shirt similar here, here and here

‘Tis the season! Where has the year gone?! I feel like I was just wrapping last years’ Christmas gifts and stashing them under the tree. Wrapping gifts is one of my favorite things to do this time of year – I turn on some classic Christmas music, grab a cup of cocoa and wrap until my fingers throb. In fact, I love wrapping gifts so much I decided to wrap up gifts for twelve lucky readers! If they will actually be wrapped or just shipped has yet to be determined. 🙂

Starting tomorrow, December 1st and through December 12th, I’ll be hosting a daily giveaway with a different prize each day. Each day, one winner will receive that days featured prize with a small surprise from me. Each person who enters is only eligible to win once during the entire twelve day giveaway. All winners will be announced after the entire giveaway has ended and prizes will be shipped shortly thereafter. The giveaway is only open to US residents.

Remember to come back every day for a chance to win a different prize! Good luck!

It has been a LONG time since I did a bloopers post – we are long overdue for some giggles. Blogging is a lot of hard work and bad photos. So here is another round up of the worst of the worst for your viewing enjoyment. These bloopers are unedited and proudly brought to you by my husband.

This afternoon we had our final Thanksgiving dinner of the year – after one more massive food binge we are 100% ready for Christmas! Our tree is up and there are even some gifts already under there. Fingers crossed that Alastor does not like the gifts as much as he liked the bulbs. 🙂

If you have been following this blog for a bit, you should recognize the skirt from this thrift haul post. It has since been ironed and looks so much better. 🙂

In other news, Black Friday was an absolute success! I did most of my shopping the week of Thanksgiving online and then headed out to do a couple in store only deals first thing Black Friday morning. My favorite things I bought were a new Ninja blender, new dishes and the cutest pair of reindeer slippers! Not to mention, I was able to knock out a couple Christmas gifts as well.

What were your favorite Black Friday deals?

I live for food holidays. Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas – my moms’ family prepares the same thing each holiday and it’s my favorite food ever. If I could eat the food we eat those three holidays every day, I’d be one happy girl! Here are some of my favorite Thanksgiving recipes. Get ready to gobble ’til you wobble!

Swiss Corn Bake
Now, I have only made this once because in our family everyone has a designated dish to prepare and bring – mine is deviled eggs and a dessert and my moms’ is Swiss Corn Bake. I live for my little mamas’ corn bake. Swiss cheese, onions, corn and bread crumbs – what could possibly be tastier? This recipe is almost exactly my moms, except she uses 3/4 cup swiss cheese in the mixture and 3/4 cup swiss cheese in the breadcrumb topping – everything else is identical.

Green Bean Casserole
Not typically a dish my family does, but my mother in law serves it on Thanksgiving and I always get seconds! Just as simple as the Swiss Corn Bake with a different take on the flavor profile; green beans, mushroom soup and french fried onions make for a creamy side dish.

Pineapple Glazed Ham
My Papa has made this ham the exact same way since I can remember and we have it Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. It’s always perfect, always tasty and always good on sandwiches as leftovers.

Mac & Cheese
My family cheats on the Mac & Cheese. Always have, always will. They (not me!) actually use a family size Stouffer’s and just add a topping of melted butter and crushed crackers to the top before baking. But if I’m in charge of the Mac & Cheese, we do things a little differently.

Double Layer Pumpkin Cheesecake
I make this for AT LEAST one Thanksgiving get together (I typically have anywhere from 4 – 6 holiday “dinners” between my family and the in laws!) and it is always a hit! The cheesecake layer adds a creaminess to the sweet and spiciness of the pumpkin layer – no whipped cream needed! Unless you want to. 🙂

Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie Cupcakes
This year, I’m adding a new recipe to my tried and true collection. Chocolate. Bourbon. Pecan Pie. Cupcakes. Thanksgiving, meet your maker. I have legitimately never had a bite of pecan pie. Well, maybe in the years before I remember, but since then, not one. Check out the recipe on Half Baked Harvest.

Pumpkin Spice Truffles
Every year for Thanksgiving I make pumpkin fudge. This year, I’m mixing things up a bit by doing pumpkin spice truffles. These are so good! You can literally eat the truffle mixture right out of the bowl with a spoon – but don’t! Wait for them to be covered in white chocolate and have yourself a creamy, bite sized pumpkin pie treat! Get the recipe on Sally’s Baking Addiction.

Soft Ginger Cookies
Oh, my! These are the PERFECT soft ginger cookies. Seriously some of the best cookies I have ever baked. My husband couldn’t keep his hands off them!

What are your favorite Thanksgiving recipes?

Here’s another Thanksgiving outfit idea! What I love about this outfit is that it’s casual but dressy and comfy but put together. Perfect for stuffing (and hiding!) your belly on Thanksgiving!

This scarf is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. I love the double sided option and it’s so large and cozy, you’ll just want to wear it everywhere. It comes 12 colors and I already have plans to buy the series 1 red and the series 2 green for the upcoming holidays! And that wallet? If you are in need of a new one, it’s literally the best wallet I’ve ever owned. There’s so much space and everything stays so well organized, not to mention it’s pretty chic. 🙂

Friday Favorites: Black Friday Edition

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
our $5 Christmas tree!
(no, it’s not up yet 🙂 )

Black Friday is one of my top ten favorite days of the year and it just so happens it is coming up in exactly one week! In honor of that I’m going to do a little Friday Favorites mashup. There is absolutely no theme here; I’ll be doing a bit of this a bit of that, some holiday favorites to get you in the spirit and basically just doing my own thing. Get ready for a trainwreck. 🙂

Deals
The best thing about Black Friday is the deals! I literally start looking at Black Friday deals at the end of October / early November. How? By using one of my favorite sites of all time: The Black Friday. The site posts early released Black Friday ads so everyone has enough time to come up with a game plan. Literally, one of the best ideas ever!

Continuing along with the deal theme, I also have to give a shout out to my absolute favorite couponing blog of all time: Hip2Save. I literally check this site multiple times a day to get most of my couponing in order and it’s especially helpful around Christmas for all the gifting deals! Bonus: Collin is super fun and totally down to earth.

Music
Confession: I have been listening to Christmas music since Halloween. Black Friday is when all bets are off; I pull out all my Christmas decorations, whip up some hot cocoa and blast “Holly Jolly Christmas” until my husband can’t stand it. And then I do it some more. 🙂 If you are not like me and don’t have your favorite version of every classic Christmas song in a special folder on your MP3 player, tune in to iHeartRadio’s Christmas Classics station and get yourself pumped!

Cookies
Christmas = Cookies. Period. So what else will I be doing this Black Friday? Baking Christmas cookies!!! Chocolate and mint is my absolute favorite combo when it comes to Christmas time and that’s what I like to focus on. One of our favorite cookies of the season are Frosted Peppermint Brownie Cookies – seriously one my favorite cookies of all time! The only change I make is to use soft peppermint puffs instead of candy canes for the topping. Get the recipe at Cooking Classy.

Thrift Shopping
Weird one? Yes. And no. At least half of my Christmas decorations are from thrift stores. Matter of fact, I bought our Christmas tree at a Goodwill years ago for $5. Yes, $5. No, It’s not the most fantastic Christmas tree in the world and it will get replaced (hopefully this year during after Christmas clearance), but you really can’t beat $5. A lot of the ornaments I use in wreaths (some of the wreaths are also thrifted) are less than perfect thrift finds. But that’s ok because you honestly can’t tell. Another thrift store bonus? All my Christmas mugs. Speaking of…

CHRISTMAS MUGS!
I am one of those people where all my dinnerware and serveware is white. Everything, down to the last coffee mug. Except my Christmas mugs, of which I probably have close to 50 by now. I collect them all year long and put them away until Black Friday, I then choose some favorites and pour myself a holly jolly nightcap. The whole idea behind it is that when we have our dream house, I can have my Cookies & Cocoa party with all our family and friends and everyone will have their own special looking mug. Can. Not. Wait.

After writing this, there apparently was a theme. Black Friday and Christmas. Go figure. At least I’m consistent. What are your plans for Black Friday?

Full disclosure: WE HAVE BEEN SO BUSY. I don’t even know how it’s happened – I suppose it’s just that time of year when time creeps up on us and smacks us on the back of the head with a cast iron skillet. Funny story? Getting smacked with a cast iron skillet is a true story. Not mine, but a relatives’. Moving on.

The photos are a little weird this time around. We haven’t fully adjusted to the time change and we were hurrying to get out of the house before it got too dark. I was in a weird mood and it was windy. Top it off with the fact that my hair looked like Hermione year one and you’ve got yourself these lovely photos above. 🙂

This outfit was actually my Thanksgiving outfit last year (doesn’t count, I didn’t have a blog 🙂 ) and my Halloween costume this year. One guess as to who I was. The tights are not an absolute necessity – I like baring a little skin sometimes – but I do feel that they are necessary for Thanksgiving dinner. If not, you risk looking like a sexy pilgrim. At least that’s what my husband said last year when I couldn’t decide tights or no tights. After that little comment, tights it was.
