If you are cringing at the mention of Goodwill (or as my grandma says “GW”) and think that it’s only for people who can’t afford to buy new things, you are seriously missing out on some of the best deals ever. I’m not talking just clothes, almost all of my barware has come from Goodwill or other thrift stores and I love picking up old, one of a kind furniture and bringing it home to live with us. Matter of fact, my tv stand is an old record player and my nightstands and “bench” (which is really a DIY upholstered coffee table) are from Craigslist. I love old furniture so much that we drove all over creation purchasing old dining chairs for guests to sit on at our wedding ceremony. It was really beautiful and we got so many compliments on it.
If you have some patience and willpower you can absolutely find fantastic deals and name brands in your neighborhood Goodwill. I consistently find (and buy) brands like Loft, Charlotte Russe, Forever21 and J Crew for a fraction of their retail value and sometimes the original tags are still attached, so they’re essentially brand new.
Of the five items mention above, one is J Crew, one is Loft and the Lou & Grey sweater still had a tag on with a retail price of $59 – I paid under $20 for all of it.
What’s your opinion on thrifting? Love it or hate it?
